Congradulation on 2 successful Tree Planting Events this year, May and Oct 2018 |
This year the Scouts worked closely with Kiwanis Key Clubs (about Venturer age)

#KiwanisOneDay. On Saturday, Oct 27th, In Taylor Creek Park, East York At a Tree Planting & 20th year of this stewardship project - 25 Kiwanis Key Clubbers from 4 Key Clubs in the Toronto area: A Y Jackson Secondary School, Don Mills Collegiate, Harbord Collegiate, York Memorial Collegiate, plus supporters from Rosedale Heights School of the Arts, University of Toronto took part!
The Team planted Eastern Red cedars, Grey Dogwood shrubs and Pale sunflowers plants, mulched over 100 previously planted trees & shrubs and helped lay out downed wooden debris for wild life habitats to increase the carbon content of the soil. We called the debris ghost trees -Boo!. We also spread seeds from local wildflowers plants and reused our pizza boxes (lunch) to mulch and smother the invasive Dog Strangling Vine weed. How cool is that!
Much appreciation for planners, workers & financial support from Boston Consulting Green Team, the 132nd Scouts, TD Bank Friends of the Environment, the Kiwanis Club of East York and our long-time arborist, Steve Smith of Urban Forest Associates. - What a great Kiwanis One Day Project! And oh; thanks to the Weather Gods who parted the clouds for a perfect half day fall work project!

Brief History:
The Stewardship One Project was started as a World Conservation project for the Tiger Patrol who were on a quest to achieve their Chief Scout's Award back in 1999. This was achieved and they were very successfully in the first year. The intent of the Stewardship One Project built on many discussions that had come up at our group committee and among the scout leaders.
These discussions voiced the concern that prior similar projects were too narrow in focus and were often frustrating to the participants in terms of really solving a long-term problem. |
|
Mission and General Plan To Foster, Plan and Maintain a natural urban forest/vegetation environment area within easy reach of the 132nd Scouts and Cubs. This is so that they will be able to participate in and obverse over an extended period of time the value of properly maintained forest vegetation environment.
Sponsorship Announcement
We would like to thank the Toronto Dominion Bank and its generous support of this event through the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation over years, http://www.td.com/fef/. This year we welcome the Boston Consulting Group Green Team into our sponsorship team.

A little History of the Seton Woods Stewardship Project |
In 1999, The Tiger Patrol @ the 132nd Scouts, laid out several issues that they wanted to address in the project. These leaders presented the idea of a "Seton Wood". The simple idea was that the scouts, as they moved through the sections, would more deeply appreciate their efforts if they could see a greater degree of success over an extended period of time. |
